EDIP: New Opportunities for the European and Greek Defence Ecosystem

The European Union is moving forward with the establishment of the European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP), a new funding and industrial instrument totalling €1.5 billion (2025–2027). Its objective is to strengthen the European defence industrial base and reduce dependence on third countries.

 

What Changes with EDIP

The programme focuses on:

  • Increasing production capacity in critical defence systems
  • Joint procurement among Member States
  • Support for large-scale, cross-border projects
  • Strengthening startups and SMEs in defence innovation
  • New financing instruments (equity) to support company scaling

At the same time, particular emphasis is placed on cooperation with Ukraine and on its integration into the European defence industrial base.
